ASPIRING GAME DESIGNER

ABOUT ME

Hi there! My name is Lox Shanks, and I’m a passionate game designer with a talent for producing compelling and immersive gaming environments. Having experience in both technical development and artistic design, I work to create games that enthral and motivate players by fusing cutting-edge gameplay mechanics with gripping stories.

My interest in interactive media and storytelling led me to pursue a career in game design. My passion for game design and development inspired me to pursue a degree in the field, where I was able to refine my abilities in level design, character development, and gameplay mechanics.

EDUCATION

Second Class (Division 1) in Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Game Design from The University of Hull

During my time at university, I have been fortunate enough to learn from some of the most talented and experienced game designers in the industry. I worked on a veriaty of projects such as animations and video games. Through coursework and hands-on experience, I have gained a deep understanding of the game design process, including concept development, prototyping, user testing, and iteration.

3D Character Design and Animation

For this project, I sculpted and animated a character using ZBrush. I focused on detailing the character’s anatomy and making sure its joints moved realistically for smooth animation. This required a mix of artistic skill, technical know-how, and knowledge of how bodies move. I worked to balance the character’s appearance and functionality to create a visually pleasing and effective final product.

Visual Effects

I want to make a quick action animation scene for my VFX work. This animation could be incorporated into a game trailer or used as promotional material to showcase a video game.

Since I have experience with this programme and access to free models that I can use to build my environment, I will be doing all of my VFX work inside of Unreal Engine. The Niagara particle system, which I will use to create my particle effects and vfx shots, is also implemented inside of Unreal Engine.

Immersive Design

My own simulated immersive experience prototype was required for the immersive design assignment, and it was inspired by the Alice in Wonderland tale.

I created a 360-degree video that was influenced by the idea of Alice in Wonderland and used the setting to convey a story. When you, the viewer, are dropped into Wonderland, the Mad Hatter welcomes you to Wonderland.

Major Project (Team)

We made the decision to collaborate as a team on our major project in order to highlight our unique talents. I worked on numerous various game features, including the main menu, cutscenes, and character design and modelling, as part of my contribution to the project.

We made the decision to create a 1920s New Orleans murder mystery. where you take on the role of a detective and try to solve mysteries.
